Modes

Leon Must Die Forever

A free minigame (update 1.300, 8 May 2026, Switch 2 included). It unlocks when you finish the story, under Extra Games, and is modelled on RE7's Ethan Must Die.

  • Goal: reach Victor Gideon and kill him before time runs out. You start on Main Street (Wrenwood).
  • You move between stages through glowing red doors; each stage has a recommended level. No checkpoints: die and you're back at the start.
  • The timer is generous: it grows at each stage change and when you shoot Midas Spinners (+70 s) and Aurora Spinners (emerald +120 s, silver +85 s, bronze +50 s).
  • No weapon upgrades: you find 1- to 3-star weapons in chests and on special enemies.
  • Red enemies resist bullets: use explosives, melee and canisters. Blue ones are only vulnerable briefly after a parry.
  • The Hatchet isn't sharpened for free: you need Hatchet Repair (boxes and some arenas) or the Parry Recovery ability.
  • Bosses: Blister Borne, The Commander, Super Tyrant and Victor (2 phases).
  • Every completed cycle raises your Forever Rank (maximum 5). Update 1.3.1 (25 June 2026) made Ranks 1-2 easier.

Leon Must Die Forever: enhancers and routes

Cloud 9 (this mode's Blood Collector) charges with kills: every 100 points buys an enhancer, and rerolling the offer costs 20. There are Basic, Bronze, Silver and Gold tiers and 8 slots (2 locked at the start; Slot Expansions scattered through the stages open them).

The best picks: Parry Recovery (a perfect parry restores 40% of the edge), Scatter Shot, Mixed Blessing (drop it before bosses: +20% damage taken), Sharpshooter, Tough Stuff, Unyielding Judge, Streamlined (with the case upgrade) and Phantom Assassin.

Fastest route: Main Street → Rehabilitation Ward → Central Camp → Victor. Grab the Main Street chest on the right (where people flee); the Ward has a Slot Expansion and a chest past the Central Camp door; at Central Camp take the back door into the Logistics Warehouse and climb to the roof, with a chest before Victor's door. Only about 3 chests: you arrive weak, so it's for confident parriers.

Loadouts unlocked by clearing ranks: Wolf Mode (Stiri REVO3 A1, Rank 1), Turbo GT (MSBG 500, Rank 2), Hot Fuzz (Classic 70, Rank 3) and Axe-orcist (Hatchet only, Rank 5).

It has 11 challenges of its own worth 112,000 CP; the biggest, Victor Must Die Now (Victor on Rank 3 or higher), pays 35,000.

Insanity: what changes

Unlocked by any ending on any difficulty.

  • Grace dies to 2 hits from almost anything, and a regular zombie's grab can kill her from full health. Carry a knife, the Eye Spy Charm and Steroids.
  • Blister Heads from Leon's first street, zombies that mutate on the spot and late-game enemies early.
  • Supply Box and Tactical Tracker from Leon's first section; kills pay more and upgrades cost about double. Body Armor Lv.III exists.
  • The Chef drops 2 Antique Coins instead of the Pantry Key (the key is in the Waiting Room closet, next to the Blood Specimen (Polymerized)). Many Care Center enemies drop coins.
  • Parlor: Hip Pouch (3), Handgun Ammo ×30 (5), R.I.P. Knife (5) and Override Manual (6). No Stabilizer or Steroids in the Parlor; there is an extra Empty Injector in the Kitchen.
  • The B934 isn't in the Dining Room: it lies empty on the Waiting Room reception desk (1F East Wing, south-west corner).
  • Grace loses the Requiem in her last section: carry another gun or buy Freya's Needle.
  • Safes (the in-game files give your run's code): Bar & Lounge right 20 → left 50 → right 30; Examination Room left 50 → right 30 → left 90; basement left 70 → right 50 → left 20; Sterilization Chamber left 80 → right 50 → left 0; Monitor Control Room right 20 → left 0 → right 70.
  • Choosing Destroy Elpis skips Victor and still counts for Remarkable Agent (40,000 CP).

The easy way: Infinite Ammo (Guns), the RPG-7 and Infinite Ammo (RPG-7). The rocket one-shots almost everything, bosses included.

No New Game+: what carries over

There is no New Game+: every run starts from scratch (credits, upgrades, inventory, weapons, recipes, Hip Pouches, Stabilizers and Steroids).

Carries over:

Changes on the second run and later:

  • Extra Supply Boxes from Leon's first section (east end of Main Street, Central Hall stairway, Elevator Corridor, the 3F Connecting Passage, Courtyard East's West Balcony, North West Street (East Raccoon City) and Blackthorn Station's B3 Subterranean Passage) and the Tactical Tracker in his inventory.
  • The MSBG 500, Classic 70, Gal, Marksman 1A and W870 Police don't spawn: you buy them (2,500, 5,000, 2,000, 6,500 and 3,000 credits).
  • Extra Tracking Modules in Wrenwood and the Care Center.

Photo Mode

Added for free in update 1.30 (27 March 2026). Open it from the pause menu, as in Village: move the camera, angle, zoom and focus, change the characters' poses and expressions, add stickers, frames and filters, and take the shot. It gives no rewards.

DLC

Deluxe Kit (paid; not in the base game)

Comes with the Deluxe Edition or separately (US$14.99). It contains:

  • Grace costumes: Dimitrescu and Film Noir. Leon: RE4, Apocalypse and Film Noir.
  • Apocalypse and Film Noir screen filters.
  • 4 weapon skins: S&S M232 and Requiem, in Apocalypse and Film Noir.
  • Mr. Raccoon Charm (Grace: precision and critical rate) and DSO Emblem Charm (Leon's handguns: precision and critical rate).
  • The "Raccoon City Classic" audio pack: the music and sound effects of 1998's RE2.
  • The Letters from 1998 files.

Individual pieces: filters US$2.99 each, skins 1.99, audio 2.99 and Letters from 1998 3.99. Claim them in the Bonuses settings. Grace's Apocalypse costume was a pre-order bonus and has been sold separately since 27 May 2026 (US$2.99).

Letters from 1998 (Deluxe Kit)

Five "From Meryl to Mommy" letters from Meryl, Marvin Branagh's daughter, spread across Raccoon City for Leon. Read them in order, or the later ones won't appear.

  • 1: inside the Applegate Hotel, by the revolving door (chapter 9).
  • 2: on a shelf in the gas station store, past the zombie that lunges from the floor (chapter 9).
  • 3: past Gun Shop Kendo, on the dashboard of a wrecked car (chapter 12).
  • 4: on the floor behind the first car on the left (north-east side) as you go down the R.P.D. Parking Garage ramp (chapter 12; backtrack from Kendo).
  • 5: in the alley behind Kendo, to the right; a pair of child's shoes marks it and it's blank.

Reward: the R.P.D. Charm, which appears in the south-east corner of the Back Street once you read letter 5 (any gun: more firepower near death). Game8 swaps letters 3 and 4; we follow the order the letters' own text gives.

amiibo on Switch 2

Switch 2 only. Since 30 July 2026 you can tap the amiibo on the NFC point: Grace gives an S&S M232 skin and Leon a Requiem skin. Both are cosmetic only. There is also a themed Switch 2 Pro Controller.

Story expansion: announced, not released

Director Koshi Nakanishi confirmed on 10 March 2026 that a story expansion is in development. As of September 2026 it has no title, content or date. A July rumour places it after the Code Veronica remake; unconfirmed.

Careful: the "Last Days" DLC with Ada Wong and the Mercenaries mode floating around online come from an April Fools' article of 1 April 2026. Requiem has no Mercenaries mode.

Unlockables

What one clear unlocks

On any difficulty with either ending:

  • Insanity difficulty.
  • Leon Must Die Forever (Extra Games).
  • The Jacket costume for Grace (she keeps the jacket she loses early) and for Leon (he wears it all game).
  • The Special Content shop (CP), the full challenge list with its trackers, and the model and concept art galleries.
  • A behind-the-scenes video.
  • Grace's Report, a long document with Raccoon City's history from 1968 to 2026. The game's wiki says it needs the Release Elpis ending; Game8 says any clear will do.
  • On later runs, Supply Boxes from Leon's first section.

Challenges and CP on Switch 2

Switch 2 has no trophies: what you see is the Challenges list in the Bonuses menu, with the other consoles' 50 trophies, The Final Puzzle and 11 more for Leon Must Die Forever (62 in all). Each one pays CP, the currency for every unlockable.

  • Almost all show as "???" until you finish the game once.
  • The story ones add up to 185,000 CP. The big ones: Remarkable Agent (Insanity) 40,000; Never Touch the Stuff and Minimalist 35,000 each; Speed Demon and The Final Puzzle 20,000; Bloodlust 10,000.
  • Cheats (infinite ammo, infinite RPG, unbreakable knife) don't block any challenge, not even Insanity or Speed Demon, and can be switched off in Options.
  • Cumulative counters survive reloads: Bloodlust (5,000 blood), Blood! More Blood! (300 used), Master Craftsman, Credit Where Credit Is Due (200,000 credits) and Seasoned Pro (300 kills). Save, spend, reload, repeat.

Special Content: weapons

Grace picks them up from the Item Box. Leon finds them in the Supply Box and still pays credits for them.

  • Kotetsu (Grace, 5,000 CP): a knife that never breaks (it still lodges when you break a grab: get it back). The best first buy.
  • Freya's Needle (Grace, 4,000): full-auto machine pistol on Handgun Ammo; no upgrades. Use it once Grace loses the Requiem; bought from the main menu, it also shows up in your current save.
  • Matilda IMP (Leon, 500): 3-round-burst pistol.
  • Ghost Grudge (Leon, 1,000): big revolver on Requiem ammo; handy in Leon's Care Center sections.
  • Mortal Edge (Leon, 3,000): the wide-parry axe without waiting for The Commander.
  • Redemption (Leon, 3,500): single-shot pistol on Rifle Ammo; 25,000 credits at the Supply Box.
  • Clatter Carbine (Leon, 6,000): suppressed assault rifle on Machine Gun Ammo; one of the best for Insanity.
  • RPG-7 (Leon, 15,000): 7,000 credits per rocket (discarded after firing); kills almost everything in one hit.

Special Content: upgrades, infinite ammo and extras

Earned by a condition:

A 4-run CP plan

PowerPyx's plan to complete everything (about 20 hours):

  • 1. Casual with every collectible (10-15 h), one save per area. Farm Bloodlust here by reloading with Transfusion Bags. You finish with about 27,000 CP.
  • 2. Fast Casual run, no healing and no Blood Collector (3-4 h) with the Kotetsu: Speed Demon + Never Touch the Stuff + Minimalist = 90,000 CP plus Infinite Ribbon. Don't spend CP on anything else.
  • 3. Insanity (about 3 h) with Infinite Ammo (Guns), the RPG-7 and its infinite ammo (100,000 CP together), plus Freya's Needle for Grace: 40,000 CP.
  • 4. Buy and view every model and art piece.

Alternative: do Never Touch the Stuff on your first run already, on Casual (health refills on its own), and buy infinite ammo sooner.

Speed Demon, Never Touch the Stuff and Minimalist

  • Speed Demon (under 4 h, with Release Elpis): pausing stops the clock, reading files doesn't. Check your time under Challenges → Speed Demon. PowerPyx's splits for a 3:00 finish: Leon's attic 0:45, basement 0:53, courtyard 1:10, rooftops 1:14, water plant 1:20, Raccoon City 1:25, end of the bike 2:05, end of the orphanage 2:17, ARK 2:27, Grace in ARK 2:35.
  • Never Touch the Stuff: no herbs and no Med Injectors, for either character. You may pick them up, store, sell or craft with them; Steroids, Leon's armor, Casual's regeneration and the story's automatic heals are all fine. If you play in a language other than English, the tracker can show "1 use" from a fresh start because of a translation bug: switch the game to English to see the real 0.
  • Minimalist: never pick up the Blood Collector in the Blood Lab (chapter 3). If you skip it, a spare one appears in ARK: leave that alone too. Do Bloodlust first, on another run.

Endings

One choice, at the very end

Nothing you do earlier changes the ending. At the end of chapter 15, the Elpis console asks "What does the creator desire?" and you pick the password:

  • "Hope" = Release Elpis: the true ending.
  • "Destruction" = Destroy Elpis: the bad ending.

There is an autosave just before Grace finds Leon: finish one, load that autosave and watch the other. There is no grade: the results screen only shows time and difficulty.

Release Elpis (true ending)

Spoiler. Zeno injects himself first and loses his powers; Victor comes back and beheads him with his Nemesis-γ tentacle. Grace cures Leon and the final boss, Victor Gideon, begins: 2 phases, the last one Nemesis-like. The Hound Wolf Squad rescues them and Leon tells Grace that Emily may still be alive.

Epilogue: Emily cured and adopted by Grace, and Sherry cured. After the credits, soldiers (most likely The Connections) wipe out the remaining BSAA in ARK and go for "the objective".

It gives Hope and Requiem, is the only ending that counts for Speed Demon and, per the wiki, unlocks Grace's Report (Game8 says any clear does).

Destroy Elpis (bad ending)

Spoiler. ARK's self-destruct starts. Zeno goes for Grace, Leon stops him with the Hatchet and stays behind, and Zeno kills him with a gunshot. Grace escapes alone and the BSAA picks her up. No final boss and no post-credits scene.

It doesn't give the story challenge, but difficulty challenges still count: on Insanity it's the way to skip the Victor fight and still earn Remarkable Agent.

What rounds out the story

None of this changes the ending, but it's easy to miss:

  • In ARK's Archives (chapter 14) Grace plays Alyssa's disk: her interview with Spencer. Read the file on the monitor before you use the big console at the back, which closes the area.
  • Alyssa's Interview Notes and Letter from Patrick (ARK) and Grace's Report (Bonuses) fill in the story of Spencer and The Connections.
  • The optional kills (Chef, Chunk as Grace, the Singers) and Barry's hunt at the R.P.D. change nothing in the plot.
  • No optional cutscenes are known: the only branch is the ending.

Secrets

The Final Puzzle (20,000 CP)

A hidden challenge ("Let the sweet pair hear the voice.") that the community cracked. It only pays the CP and needs two runs (easier on Casual).

First run:

  • In the basement, reach Processing holding two Joint Plugs and the Forklift Key, don't drain the water and save.
  • Wait 15 full minutes in Processing (counting 115 bodies dropping into the pit, about 8.5 minutes, didn't work).
  • Drain it and survive the conveyor without landing a killing blow yourself (shoot knees and push zombies into the machine's teeth).
  • Finish the basement, set Emily on the Guard Office couch and flush a toilet in the restroom past the kitchen 8 times.
  • During the Research Facility escape, on a flight of stairs just before Grace's panicked run, pick up Marie's Doll. If it isn't there, load your save from before draining.
  • Finish the game.

Second run: the doll is in the Item Box. After the ID Wristband (Level 3) opens Emily's cell, carry Emily with the doll in your inventory to the Lead Researcher's Office quartz box and enter Sun, Sun, Star, Sun, Moon, Star, Sun, Moon, Sun, Moon, Star, Moon. You don't need the Severed Hand.

Where it comes from: the Severed Hand's RNA (GGC AAG AUA ACG UGU CAU = "GLITCH") without the A's, with U = moon (Hourglass: 380,000 km), G = sun (analyzer: 150,000,000) and C = star (Grace Ashcroft Blood Analysis Report: 4.2 light years).

Barry's scavenger hunt at the R.P.D.

  • In the S.T.A.R.S. Office (chapter 10), examine both photos and turn them over: Scavenger Hunt - Clue 2 in the locker by the entrance and Scavenger Hunt - Clue 1 in Chris's leather jacket on the wall. The backs read "You kids have fun solving this one! - Barry".
  • Only then does the Locker Key appear: in the bracket of the ceiling TV in the Operations Room (climb the pallets by the chalkboard).
  • Open the "JoJo" locker in the West Office: S.T.A.R.S. Emblem Charm, two Raccoon City Zoo tickets (an Outbreak nod), a Street Fighter Alpha poster, a console and Capcom games (Resident Evil, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Mega Man 3).
  • If you missed it, you can still do it in chapter 12, after the Tyrant chase, before you leave the station.

Rebecca's photo and the RRR briefcase

  • In Wesker's small office inside the S.T.A.R.S. Office, open the desk drawer and wait a few seconds: the Library Card slides out (Medicinal Benefits of Herbs, borrowed by A. Wesker).
  • In the library, upper floor, on the shelf to the right of the locked wooden door, open the botany book: the Photograph, Rebecca Chambers' photo from RE2. The back reads "Rising / Rookie / Rebecca". To be safe, read the 4 S.T.A.R.S. Office files first.
  • Library Card and Photograph are the 2 files people miss most for Case Closed.
  • The briefcase in the back room of the S.T.A.R.S. Office opens with R-R-R (it works even without the photo): Power Shades Charm (Requiem: limitless penetration and more firepower on the last round in the cylinder).

Tofu and other R.P.D. nods

  • Tofu peeks out in 3 spots at the R.P.D., per Game8: the big crack on the left as you enter Reception, outside the broken wall at the west end of the west corridor, and the hole in the Operations Room wall opposite the chalkboard. After you inspect Jill's beret you'll hear strange wobbling noises.
  • The S.T.A.R.S. Office has Jill's beret and a medical bag; on 2F, by the stairs outside the Chief's office, there is a Mr. Charlie doll base.
  • Leon pays his respects to Marvin Branagh and Robert Kendo.

Series nods

  • Sanguis Virginis: Lady Dimitrescu's wine bottle (Village) in the VIP Suite hides the Double Helix Model (chapter 6).
  • Cute Bear Charm: copies the keychain on Ada's jet-ski key at the end of RE4.
  • Leon's licence plate reads "ND = 9642": probably his games (9, 6, 4 and 2).
  • The title-screen music remixes Outbreak's "The Plague Cometh", and Ink Ribbon Tins come from Outbreak's "Empty Ink Ribbons".
  • The "JoJo" locker is a Hideki Kamiya nod.
  • Toy Uncle: after the Super Tyrant, kick the bobblehead's head around the basketball court and through the hoop: "There's no time for playing around". Then inspect its body at Gun Shop Kendo: "Just ignore A" (a Final Puzzle clue).
  • ARK holds H.C.F., TRICELL and Umbrella crates, and in the archive footage Patrick, Spencer's butler from RE5, holds baby Grace.

Challenge tricks

  • Farm with reloads: cumulative counters don't roll back when you reload. For Bloodlust: spend your blood crafting, save, drink Transfusion Bags (for example in Cold Storage, chapter 3), reload and repeat. The same works for Master Craftsman, credits and kills.
  • Internal Dispute (chapter 3): the easiest spot is the Records Room on your first visit: throw the bottle at the normal zombie standing next to the blind patient.
  • Fatal Dose: the zombie with its back turned left of the Hemolytic Injector in the Examination Room (chapter 3).
  • Bang for Your Buck: the 3 zombies in a line in the corridor between the Isolation Ward and the Waiting Room.
  • Can I Borrow This?: the axe zombie on Leon's first street (chapter 1).
  • Infinite RPG on Insanity: one-shots almost everything, bosses included (one source says The Commander is immune to guns).
  • Destroy Elpis on Insanity: you skip Victor and the challenge still counts.
