You play Ethan, who has just left House Beneviento with the Legs Flask, the W870 TAC and the Luthier’s Key. You already hold the Four-Winged Unborn Key, so you could head straight for Moreau through the Altar’s south gate, but this is the moment for a loop around the village: the Graveyard hides a piece of gravestone that can only be taken now, a giant with an axe waits at Beneviento’s grave worth 48,000 Lei between what it drops and what the grave holds, the luthier’s house finally opens (with the F2 Rifle’s big magazine) and there are loose ends from chapter 5. None of it is required, but nearly all of it is money and gear you’ll want for the reservoir.
Chapter order: Altar (Legs Flask on the pedestal, the Duke) → Graveyard (2 Moroaică, Broken Slab) → north gate → Suspension Bridge → Potter’s Field → South Garden (black goat: Meat ×2) → Beneviento’s Grave (Uriaș Drac, Giant Crystal Axe) → the grave: Berengario’s Chalice → Garden Path → Potter’s Field → Suspension Bridge → Altar (sell, save) → east gate → Maiden of War → West Old Town (tractor) → Luthier’s House (code 270917: Steel Hræsvelgr and F2 Rifle - High-Capacity Mag.) → chapter 5 loose ends → Altar (sell, cook, save) → south gate.
Before you start: you leave House Beneviento with the W870 TAC and the Luthier’s Key, so sell the spare treasures first. These have no partner piece and are safe to sell: Angie (28,000), the Onyx Skull (15,000) and Miss Madalina (20,000) if you joined both halves. Don’t sell the Necklace with Two Holes (it is part of Dimitrescu’s Necklace, 50,000). If you don’t have it yet, buy the Recipe: Mines (3,500, on sale since the Vineyard): Mines are the best tool against this chapter’s Uriaș Drac and against the next chapter’s Vârcolac and Moreau. For the Uriaș Drac, bring the F2 Rifle with plenty of rounds, a loaded shotgun, 2 or 3 Mines and a Pipe Bomb or two: it soaks up a huge number of shots. Save at the Altar before you set off for Beneviento’s Grave. You can skip the giant if you’d rather not spend the ammo, but you give up 48,000 Lei between the axe and the chalice.
Missables and points of no return: this whole stretch is optional, but do it before you open the Altar’s south gate with the Four-Winged Unborn Key: the Broken Slab (and with it Berengario’s Chalice) is lost if you push on toward Moreau. On top of that, the scene that opens the crypt sometimes fails to trigger unless you go straight from the Altar to the Graveyard. The Fallow Plot (white pig, well, Luiza’s house) stays open, but after chapter 8 the Vârcolac Alfa guards it: better to finish it now.
Difficulty: codes, treasures and the grave are the same on every difficulty. On Casual the Uriaș Drac goes down with far less ammo; on Hardcore and above all Village of Shadows you need many more rounds (see the boss). Village of Shadows puts 2 Lycans on the Suspension Bridge’s east ledges, 4 Lycans (instead of 3) on the west side of West Old Town and Handgun Ammo ×18 instead of Sniper Rifle Ammo under the luthier’s sink.
Altar: the Legs Flask and the Duke
You come back from House Beneviento over the suspension bridge. Put the Legs Flask on the pedestal next to the Head Flask (two to go). The typewriter is on the small table next to the Duke: save. Everything new in the shop goes on sale once you escape House Beneviento (Evil Resource confirms it for both recipes and the M1911 part; PowerPyx agrees on the recipes):
- Recipe: Explosive Rounds (3,000): 1 Gunpowder + 1 Metal Scrap + 1 Herb = 2 Explosive Rounds. On sale now, before you have the GM 79 (it arrives in chapter 8). Buy it: the GM 79 is the weapon for the Vârcolac and Moreau.
- Recipe: Flashbangs (3,000): 1 Chem Fluid + 1 Rusted Scrap + 1 Herb = 2 Flashbang. Also on sale now. Useful for stopping a Vârcolac in the open.
- W870 TAC upgrades (your shotgun from now on): power 760 → 840 for 16,000 and → 960 for 27,000; capacity 4 → 6 for 11,000. At power level 2 you can sell the M1897 (its ceiling, 800, falls short): 12,000 Lei.
- Recipe: Mines (3,500), if you didn’t buy it at the Vineyard: 1 Metal Scrap + 1 Rusted Scrap = 1 Mine. Buy it before you set off for the grave.
- W870 TAC - Improved Gunstock (22,000): only reduces recoil. It’s a luxury: the shotgun’s upgrades come first.
- M1911 - Improved Grip (12,000; sells for 6,000): only reduces the M1911’s recoil. Low priority: the pistol’s power and capacity are worth far more. If you have money to spare late in the game, here it is; the Duke keeps selling it on later visits.
What you got for Angie and the Onyx Skull covers the Explosive Rounds recipe, the Flashbangs recipe and the W870 TAC’s power level 2. The rest comes after you sell the axe and the chalice.
Graveyard: the Broken Slab (missable)
Leave the Altar by the east gate, cross the Maiden of War and go up to the Graveyard, to the north, facing the castle gate. The crypt on the west side (left of the castle gate) used to be locked; not any more. As you walk up to the graves, 2 Moroaică appear: one climbs out of the snow and the other breaks the crypt door from inside, which opens it. With the F2 Rifle each one drops to a single head shot; with the shotgun, two. Don’t spend explosives on Moroaică: they barely hurt them. Go into the crypt and take the Broken Slab: the piece of gravestone with the name “Claudia” missing from the grave at Beneviento’s Grave.
- When it’s lost: PowerPyx says the crypt locks again later on; Game8 says the treasure is only available “before you go and face Moreau”. GameRevolution also warns that the Moroaică scene sometimes fails to trigger unless you come straight after House Beneviento; if it fails, the treasure waits for another playthrough. Go straight from the Altar to the Graveyard.
- While you’re here: if you didn’t take it in chapter 5, the Juicy Game (the blue bird) is still in the north-west tree, left of the castle gate. Bring it down with the F2 Rifle. The Photo of a Strange Bird from outhouse 9 points to it. If you haven’t taken it before, there’s a Herb on the gravestone in the north-west corner.
To Beneviento: Suspension Bridge and South Garden
Return to the Altar and take the north gate: the ravine, the Suspension Bridge (no enemies on Standard; on Village of Shadows, 2 Lycans on the east ledges: a shotgun blast to the head when they jump onto the bridge), the Potter’s Field and the Garden Path. In the South Garden, the garden with the hut where you found the W870 TAC, a black goat has appeared: kill it for 2 Meat. One F2 Rifle round is enough. Check your ammo before heading down to the grave: there’s nothing to buy until the Altar.
Beneviento’s Grave: Claudia’s grave
The clearing in front of House Beneviento’s red door, with the big gravestone in the middle. The giant only appears if you carry the Broken Slab. As you walk in, an Uriaș Drac with a huge axe leaps into the clearing (see “Boss — Uriaș Drac” below). Killed, it drops the Giant Crystal Axe (30,000). Then place the Broken Slab on the central gravestone: it completes the name “Claudia Beneviento”, the grave opens and inside is Berengario’s Chalice (18,000). This is the marked treasure Beneviento’s Treasure. Pick up what the Moroaică the giant summons drop, too (mostly materials). A Steam forum post claims you can open the grave without killing it; no guide confirms it, so plan on the fight.
From the grave to West Old Town
The way back is the way you came:
- Beneviento’s Grave → Garden Path → Potter’s Field, uphill all the way to the ravine.
- Suspension Bridge → Altar. Stop here: sell the Giant Crystal Axe and Berengario’s Chalice (48,000 between them), upgrade the W870 TAC and save. Your case fills up fast in the luthier’s house.
- Altar’s east gate → Maiden of War. From the square, head south and west toward West Old Town, as in chapter 5 (Game8: “head south of the Maiden of War back to where the Iron Insignia gate was”).
- Crawl under the tractor you raised with the Jack Handle, in the middle of West Old Town.
- Turn right and keep going until you see the goat heads; there, turn left and go straight on: the Luthier’s Yard gate is on your left (Game8). It’s the one with the yellow padlock, with outhouse 7 inside; if you didn’t break it in chapter 5, break it with the Knife.
Lycans that may still be there. Raising the tractor in chapter 5 spawned 2 Lycans in the central area of West Old Town and 3 on the west side (2 + 4 on Village of Shadows), there is 1 Lycan in the Luthier’s Shed and 1 large Lycan in the Old Man’s Front Yard. If you ran past them back then, they’re still around. Drop them with W870 TAC blasts to the head or, if several bunch up, pull them toward the tractor crawlspace: it’s a narrow gap and they reach you one at a time.
Luthier’s House (the “Maestro’s Collection” marked treasure)
Open the “missing owners” house with the Luthier’s Key from the Gardener’s House. Inside:
- The closet padlock (north-west corner) asks for a 6-digit date. The paper with the violin’s model number is a red herring. A note on the workbench reads “I will never forget her fifth birthday”.
- The “Happy Birthday” drawing hangs on the kitchen wall (Evil Resource and Game8) and shows the date.
- Code: 27-09-17 (270917).
- In the closet: Steel Hræsvelgr (14,000) and a case with the F2 Rifle - High-Capacity Mag. (+5 rounds in the rifle’s magazine; worth 16,000 per Evil Resource). Fit it right away. In New Game+, if you already own the part, the case holds 10,000 Lei instead.
More in the house:
- Yellow Quartz (10,000) on the front of the lute hanging from the ceiling, north-east corner. Shoot it or knock it down with the Knife. It counts for the Geologist challenge (shoot down 15 different minerals).
- Sniper Rifle Ammo ×3 under the sink (on Village of Shadows, Handgun Ammo ×18).
- Chem Fluid in the chest of drawers in the workshop area.
- A wooden crate in the north-east.
Chapter 5 loose ends
All of this is still open; do it now if you ran out of time:
- Luiza’s Heirloom: the jewelry box on Luiza’s porch gives Luiza’s Necklace; examine it in your key items for the Necklace Stone (8,000) and again for Luiza’s Key, which opens the chest on the Lone Road: Cesare’s Goblet (19,000).
- Wells (Well Wheel): Maiden of War, east side (Wooden Animal (Head)); West Old Town Farmer’s Land (Lockpick); behind the church (Necklace with Two Holes); Fallow Plot Shed Yard (3 Pipe Bombs); North Garden (Madalina (Head), chapter 6).
- Animals: 3 Poultry in Eugen’s Yard, 2 in the Crypt Yard, 2 in the Chicken Yard; the black pig (2 Meat) in the Farmer’s Shed; the white pig (Quality Meat) in the Fallow Plot Shed Yard; 3 Fish in the drawbridge moat.
- The Fallow Plot, before Moreau: after chapter 8 the Vârcolac Alfa guards it. The white pig, the well and Luiza’s house are easier now.
Back to the Altar: sell, cook and save
Sell the Steel Hræsvelgr and the Yellow Quartz (plus the Giant Crystal Axe and Berengario’s Chalice if you still carry them: 72,000 Lei for the four). Spend it on the W870 TAC (power and capacity) and the M1911’s capacity. If you’re still missing a recipe (Mines, Explosive Rounds, Flashbangs), buy it now: in the reservoir the Duke is at the Gatehouse, deep inside.
Cooking. If in chapter 5 you cooked only the Herbed Fish, you have 5 Poultry left: with the 2 Meat from the black pig and the 2 from the goat, you now have what the Tochitura de Pui needs (Poultry ×4 + Meat ×3 + Juicy Game ×1), the biggest health boost in the game, so cook it here. If you also cooked the Bird and Beast Pilaf, you have 1 Poultry left: the Tochitura waits for the chickens at the Gatehouse (chapter 8) and East Old Town (chapter 9) and, if the Gatehouse gave you only 2, the one at Otto’s Mill (chapter 10); keep the goat’s 2 Meat. Poultry is the tightest ingredient in the playthrough: don’t sell a single one.
Then save and use the Four-Winged Unborn Key on the Altar’s south gate: chapter 8 begins.
Boss — Uriaș Drac
A giant twice a man’s height, carrying a huge axe. Slow on foot, but it leaps enormous distances. The arena is Beneviento’s Grave: the clearing with Claudia’s grave and a pile of gravestones in the middle, with the entrance stairs behind you. According to data read from the game’s memory it has 22,000 HP (the same on every difficulty: what changes is your damage). Weak points: the back of the torso takes ×3 and the head ×2.4; everything else, ×2. Explosives do ×2 anywhere. As a rough guide, at Standard’s starting rank an F2 Rifle round with no upgrades takes about 720 HP off with a head shot, and a Mine or Pipe Bomb about 1,500. Count on 25-30 good hits.
Its attacks:
- Axe sweep: a string of axe swings in a row when it has you close: back off as soon as it starts. It also throws a single chop while chasing you.
- Leap: it crouches and lands on you from across the arena. If you’re behind the gravestone pile it jumps over it; if you’re just out of its reach, it stays on the ground.
- Roar: summons 2 Moroaică once it has taken enough damage, and it repeats it every so often for the rest of the fight. Stun it before the roar finishes and the summon is cancelled.
- Before it reaches you, lay Mines on the path you’ll take circling the central grave. It always walks over them.
- Circle Claudia’s grave and the gravestone pile. Turn, shoot, keep moving. With the F2 Rifle, aim for the head. When it turns its back on you, shoot the torso from behind: that’s where you do the most damage.
- When it crouches, step sideways straight away: that’s the leap. After each leap and each sweep it stands still for a moment. Use it for a head shot (shotgun up close, rifle from afar).
- Kill the Moroaică as soon as they appear: they keep harassing you even after the giant dies, and they drop materials. One F2 Rifle head shot drops each of them. Explosives do little to them (×0.67), so keep the Pipe Bombs and Mines for the giant.
- If you’re short on health or ammo, back off toward the entrance stairs: if you get far enough, it stops chasing you (Game8). Its reach is long; don’t get cocky.
- Reward: Giant Crystal Axe (30,000). Then place the Broken Slab on the grave: Berengario’s Chalice (18,000).
On Casual you need far less ammo (you start at ×0.85 damage instead of ×0.50). On Hardcore and Village of Shadows it takes many more rounds: on VoS your damage is fixed at ×0.20, so you need 2.5 times as many shots as on Standard. There more than ever: Mines in its path and shots to the back.
Don’t leave without: the Broken Slab and Berengario’s Chalice (lost if you move on to Moreau) · the Giant Crystal Axe · the F2 Rifle - High-Capacity Mag., the Steel Hræsvelgr and the lute’s Yellow Quartz (Luthier’s House) · the black goat’s 2 Meat · the Explosive Rounds, Flashbangs and Mines recipes · the W870 TAC at power level 2 (and the M1897 sold) · the Fallow Plot (white pig, well and Luiza’s Heirloom) before the Vârcolac Alfa arrives.
