Characters

Who is who.

Leon S. Kennedy

Protagonist; DSO agent (USA)

Prelude · Leon 1-5 · crosses paths with Ada (Leon 2 and 5), Jake and Sherry (Leon 4) and Chris (Leon 4)

A Raccoon City survivor. Afterwards President Adam Benford recruited him into government service, and they're friends. On the night of Tall Oaks he has to shoot the President when he turns.

Carries the Wing Shooter (dual-wielded with X + ZL; its Quick Shot is a 5-shot chain) and the Survival Knife. In the split sections: in Leon 3 he swims away from the Brzak while Helena crosses the bridges, and in Leon 4 he throws Helena across a gap between rooftops.

English voice: Matthew Mercer.

Helena Harper

Leon's partner; Secret Service agent

Prelude · Leon 1-5

A former CIA agent with a record of misconduct. That same night she radioed the Secret Service to go back to the President, and nobody listened because of her record. She keeps a secret tying her to what happens in Tall Oaks, revealed in Leon 2.

Carries the Picador and the Hydra, a triple-barrel shotgun whose Quick Shot is 3 acrobatic shots (the Stuntman challenge is hers). Only she picks up 10-Gauge Shells. In Leon 3 she takes her own route and can break a Serpent Emblem before rescuing Leon.

English voice: Laura Bailey.

Chris Redfield

Protagonist; BSAA captain, Alpha Team

Chris 1-5 · crosses paths with Jake and Sherry (Chris 2, 3 and 5) and Leon and Helena (Chris 3)

He starts in Lanshiang with amnesia after a disaster in Edonia six months earlier; Chris 2 is the flashback to that mission. With Piers at his side, he hunts the woman calling herself Ada Wong.

He starts with more weapons than anyone: Assault Rifle for Special Tactics, Nine-Oh-Nine and Combat Knife (with its own counter). He flies the VTOL at the end of Chris 4 (the Flying Ace challenge). In Chris 5 he crawls through the vents while Piers stops the fans.

English voice: Roger Craig Smith.

Piers Nivans

Chris's partner; BSAA sniper

Chris 1-5

Former US Army special forces; Chris recruited him in 2010 and he's Chris's second-in-command.

Carries the MP-AF (automatic or single shot) and the Anti-Materiel Rifle, with two zoom levels and a thermal scope (X + ZL) that shows invisible enemies: the Bring the Heat challenge is his. In the split sections he covers Chris from range, as on the pipe crossing; on the Chris 2 bridge he blows up the tank by shooting the fuel tanker behind it once Chris draws it out.

English voice: Christopher Emerson.

Jake Muller

Protagonist; mercenary in Edonia

Jake 1-5 · crosses paths with Chris (Jake 1, 4 and 5), Leon (Jake 4) and Ada (Jake 4)

He grew up in Edonia with his mother, whose illness pushed him into mercenary work. His blood carries antibodies against the C-Virus, which is why everyone is after him, the Ustanak above all. His father is a very well-known name in the saga.

Carries the Nine-Oh-Nine and Hand-to-Hand: the game's best melee, which costs no ammo (right-stick click switches targets). Later he gets the Elephant Killer. The Hard Choice challenge (Jake 4) is his.

English voice: Troy Baker.

Sherry Birkin

Jake's partner; DSO agent

Jake 1-5

The girl Leon got out of Raccoon City in Resident Evil 2. The G-Virus left her with lifelong regeneration. She grew up in government custody under Simmons, and her mission is to get Jake out of Edonia.

Carries the Triple Shot (single or 3-round burst) and the Stun Rod: hold the strike to charge it (the High Voltage challenge). In Jake 3 she starts with only the Stun Rod. She has routes of her own, like the one in Jake 1 that holds a Serpent Emblem.

English voice: Eden Riegel.

Ada Wong

Protagonist of the fourth campaign; freelance spy

Ada 1-5 · crosses paths with Leon (Ada 2 and 5) and Jake and Sherry (Ada 3)

She's investigating why she's blamed for Neo-Umbrella's work: someone with her face is behind it. Her campaign starts days earlier, on a submarine, and fills the gaps in the other three.

Carries the Crossbow (normal and explosive bolts; also a puzzle tool) and the Ammo Box 50, and uses a grappling hook to climb and cross gaps. Her campaign has stealth: the Sneaking Around challenge (Ada 4).

English voice: Courtenay Taylor.

Agent

Ada's co-op partner (non-canon)

Ada 1-5 when a 2nd player joins · The Mercenaries · online modes

A faceless operative who exists only so Ada's campaign can be played by two. He starts with the Nine-Oh-Nine and the Survival Knife.

Limits: he can't open doors or chests, pick up key items, flip switches or ride zip-lines, and he vanishes during scenes. So Ada's player does all the story work and Agent's player covers. In the Ada 5 helicopter he mans his own gatling gun. If Ada's player leaves, the session ends.

In The Mercenaries he's available from the start and has no extra costumes.

Derek C. Simmons

Antagonist; US National Security Advisor

Mentioned from Leon 1 · boss in Leon 4, Leon 5 and Ada 5

Head of The Family, his family's secret society. Sherry's guardian since Raccoon City. He's behind the Tall Oaks attack: he wants to silence President Benford, who was about to tell the truth about Raccoon City.

Spoiler: he ends up infected with an enhanced C-Virus and transforms several times (beast, dinosaur, centaur, chimera, fly). He's the final boss for both Leon and Ada.

English voice: David Lodge.

Carla Radames

Antagonist; Family scientist, creator of the C-Virus and leader of Neo-Umbrella

As "Ada" in Chris 2, 3 and 4 and at the end of Jake 2 · boss in Ada 4 · playable in The Mercenaries

A doctor at 15 and recruited by Simmons's foundation. She created the C-Virus from t-Veronica and the G-Virus.

Spoiler: the "Ada Wong" Chris is chasing is her, turned into an Ada clone against her will. Her revenge on Simmons drives Neo-Umbrella. In Ada 4 you face her mutated.

In The Mercenaries she unlocks once you own every character and every EX1 costume. English voice: Courtenay Taylor, the same as Ada.

Ustanak

Neo-Umbrella bioweapon hunting Jake

Jake 1, 2, 4 and 5 · Leon 4 (intersection) · playable in Predator

His name means "uprising". A Nemesis-style stalker who obeys only Carla. He swaps the tool on his arm (claw, gatling gun, drill) and releases Oko scouts in Jake 2.

Getting caught in a chase is certain death; in Jake 2 it's Game Over. The last fight is in Jake 5. He has his own mode: in Predator a player controls him.

Deborah Harper

Helena's younger sister

Leon 2 (and Ada's side of it in Ada 2)

Born in 1992. Simmons's men kidnapped her to put pressure on Helena.

Spoiler: under Tall Oaks Cathedral she mutates into a boss, in the fight Leon, Helena and Ada share. Her figure unlocks when you collect every Serpent Emblem in Leon's campaign.

English voice: Kate Higgins.

Adam Benford

President of the United States

Prelude and Leon 1 (flashback)

He recruited Leon after Raccoon City and founded the DSO. At Ivy University in Tall Oaks he was going to reveal the truth about the government's role in Raccoon City. That night he's infected, and Leon has to shoot him.

English voice: Michael Donovan.

Ingrid Hunnigan

DSO support on the radio

Leon 1-5

Leon's voice on the radio, as in Resident Evil 4. She guides Leon and Helena out of Tall Oaks. She was the one who recommended Helena.

English voice: Salli Saffioti.

Finn Macauley

BSAA rookie, demolitions expert

Chris 2 (Edonia, 24 December 2012)

He joined Alpha Team at 22. In Chris 2 you cover him while he sets the bombs (a story medal). What Carla does to him is what breaks Chris.

Marco Rose

Leader of BSAA Bravo Team in Lanshiang

Chris 1 and Chris 3

He helps Chris and Piers bring down the Iluzija by reconnecting the power, and afterwards falls into Carla's ambush. His father is one of the survivors in the Leon 2 cathedral.

Jenny and Megan

Survivors in Tall Oaks Cathedral

Leon 2

The last two survivors when the Lepotitsa appears in the cathedral. Kill it before it infects them for I Prefer Them Alive: they only become vulnerable once they reach the altar. Save them and they stay by the altar, and a pew holds a Green Herb and a Red Herb.

Albert Wesker

The saga's villain (dead since RE5)

Only mentioned: files and dialogue

Chris killed him in Resident Evil 5. Spoiler: he's Jake's father, which is why Jake's blood is worth so much. The Jake Muller's Infamous Father file tells the story.
