Chapter order: Valley Storage Building: tied up with Luis (QTE) → storage yard: first Merchant (Attaché Case M, TMP) → the valley siege (Emblem left and right halves → Hexagonal Emblem) → sewage treatment plant (Spinel in the furnace, Elegant Mask behind the boarded window, fish) → chief’s manor yard (Brass Pocket Watch in the well) → chief’s manor (Insignia Key, Chief’s Note) → Méndez grabs you.
BUY: Attaché Case M 24,000pts · TMP 10,000pts · Treasure Map (Village) 3,000pts — sell Spinels, Pearl Pendant and Ruby. Don’t buy the bolt-action rifle.
You are still Leon. You wake up tied back to back with Luis Sera in a storage building in a valley away from the village. Luis slips away as soon as you are free and you meet the Merchant, the trader who follows you for the whole game. Then you cross the valley camp (the chapter’s longest fight), go through a sewage treatment plant and reach the village chief’s manor, where the Insignia Key that opens the way to the church in 1-3 is kept. The chapter ends abruptly when Méndez surprises you in the upstairs corridor.
Before you start
- Saving: typewriter in the Valley Storage Building (at the start) and, in the chief’s manor, in the southeast corner of the dining room on the ground floor (save there before going upstairs).
- The first Merchant is behind the storage building. What he sells now:
- Handgun 8,000pts (you already have it) · Shotgun 20,000pts (sold out if you took the free one) · Rifle (bolt-action) 12,000pts · TMP 10,000pts · Rocket Launcher 30,000pts.
- Scope (Rifle) 7,000pts · Stock (TMP) 4,000pts (if you don’t see it yet, it shows up at the 1-3 Merchant).
- First Aid Spray 5,000pts · Attaché Case M 24,000pts · Treasure Map (Village) 3,000pts.
- The Punisher isn’t on sale yet (it arrives in 1-3, and free if you carry 10 medallions).
- What to do with the money: sell the 7 Spinels (2,000pts each), the Pearl Pendant and the Ruby. That covers the Attaché Case M and the TMP. Don’t sell the Beerstein (it already holds the Red Catseye and takes two more gems) or the Elegant Mask when you find it: alone it’s worth 3,000pts and with its three gems 20,000pts.
- Easy to miss: the Elegant Mask is in a small room in the sewage plant you only get into by breaking a boarded window; the clean Brass Pocket Watch needs the well lid closed first; and everything in the chief’s bedroom must be picked up before you step into the upstairs corridor, because that triggers the Méndez cutscene and ends the chapter.
Valley Storage Building
It starts with a cutscene: a Ganado with an axe comes in. QTE: fail it and you both die; land it and the axe cuts the chain. Luis says goodbye and Hunnigan calls (#5).
- 10 Handgun rounds on the shelves on the southeast wall of the room you wake up in.
- 5 Rifle rounds and the typewriter on the small shelves by the door to the yard.
Storage yard. A Green Herb in the barrel in front of the building and a Red Herb in a barrel in the southeast corner, behind it. The Merchant is in the southwest area, behind the storage building: go around it. Buy, sell and save before opening the valley.
The valley
It’s a camp with several cabins and a hill. 8 Ganados wander around, 14 more show up as you explore and the upper area has another 9: about 31 in all, some carrying dynamite.
Scout before going in. Past the Merchant there are two barrels and two gaps in the fence: you can see the camp from there. If you have Rifle ammo you can pick off a few with headshots before opening up. When you open the doors a Ganado raises the alarm and 5 or 6 rush down the hill.
Tactics:
- Dynamite: shoot the stick while it’s in their hand and it takes the ones next to them.
- Explosive drum: at the top of the hill, by the sandbags, there is an oil drum. Shoot it when they bunch up next to it.
- The roof: the safe play is running to the roof of the far cabin (Building 2), climbing both ladders and knifing whoever climbs up from the top of the ladder; you can also push the ladder away. Go down only for drops and to pull the next wave.
Items and the two emblem halves:
- Building 1 (the small shack): 1,000pts in the locker on the north side and a Yellow Herb in the locker in the northeast corner (combine it with a Green Herb: it raises max health).
- Building 2, north part: 2 Ganados inside, 10 Handgun rounds on the big boxes in the middle and a Flash Grenade in the locker in the northwest corner. In the big chest on the roof, the Emblem (Right Half).
- Building 2, south part: 5 shells on the shelves.
- High platform above the east exit door: 5 shells in a barrel.
- Upper area (top of the hill): 9 Ganados. The Emblem (Left Half) is in the big chest in the northeast corner, and there are 5 Rifle rounds in a barrel in the same area.
Combine the two halves in the inventory: you get the Hexagonal Emblem, which opens the blue double doors to the path to the sewage plant.
Sewage Treatment Plant
The route runs along the path and the plant’s yard (three crates outside) to the entrance.
Corridor. 4 Ganados. Clear them before rounding the corner; break the crate and jump through the window.
Furnace room. Crouch behind the dumpster as you enter: there are 4 Ganados on the north side, some with dynamite. Kill one before he throws and the blast takes the rest (or toss an Incendiary Grenade through the window). This room has 9 bear traps:
- 3 in front of the sandbag wall in the middle (don’t jump the sandbags: you land on them);
- 3 by the furnaces on the east side;
- 3 by the north door.
Go around them or knife them. Check the furnaces on the east side: Handgun ammo in the southern one and a Spinel in the northern one. When you’re done, two more Ganados may come through the door: wait for them with the Shotgun.
Boiler Room and the Elegant Mask. There’s a Green Herb in the barrel in the southwest corner. This room has a boarded-up window: knife it open and jump through into the small room behind it (Small Storeroom). The Elegant Mask is on the shelving on the east wall. It’s easy to walk past: don’t leave the boiler room without it.
Exit passage. Go down the ramp: 2 Ganados, one at the central corner and one by the ladder down to the water. Below, in the pool, there are 10 Handgun rounds, a Flash Grenade, 1,000pts and fish: 4 Black Bass and 1 Black Bass (L). Shoot or knife them and pick them up: they heal, and the big one sells well. Climb up and out of the sewer.
Village Chief’s Manor Yard
The sewer comes out in the chief’s manor yard, not in the Village Square.
- Crows and tripwire: there are 3 crows on the ground by two trees, a tripwire between the trees and 3 bear traps (two between the trees and one by the northern tree). Shoot one crow, then the tripwire bomb: the blast kills the rest. Go around the trees to avoid the traps.
- Brass Pocket Watch: it hangs from the roof of the well in the northwest corner. Same as the farm’s Pearl Pendant: shoot the small piece of wood holding the lid open first so it closes, then the watch. Clean it’s worth 10,000pts; if it falls in the water it’s the Dirty Brass Pocket Watch (1,000pts).
- Next to the well is the manor shed: break whatever is inside and go into the house.
Village Chief’s Manor
Ground floor. The typewriter is in the southeast corner of the dining room: save here. This floor also has an Incendiary Grenade in the glass cabinet in the southwest corner, money in a cabinet and an egg in the kitchen; if you don’t take them now, they’re there at the start of 1-3.
The orb door. According to the RE Wiki, a door has an orb you turn Up and then Left to open it (not confirmed by a second source; one walkthrough places it at the top of the stairs).
Upstairs bedroom. Everything that matters is here:
- Insignia Key: in the small open jewellery box on the cabinet on the south side. It opens the door with the Los Iluminados symbol on the Town Hall, in the Village Square (not the church: that one needs the Round Insignia in 2-1). You use it at the start of 1-3.
- Chief’s Note, on the bed.
- 1,000pts in the wardrobe in the northwest corner.
- 10 Handgun rounds in the desk in the southeast corner.
- There’s also a Green Herb in the cabinet next to the bedroom door, upstairs.
⚠️ Point of no return: as soon as you step out of the bedroom into the upstairs corridor, Méndez grabs you by the throat and the chapter ends. Pick everything up first.
Before leaving the bedroom
- Attaché Case M bought (and the TMP if you follow the buy order).
- Elegant Mask (from the sewage plant).
- A clean Brass Pocket Watch.
- Insignia Key and Chief’s Note.
- The furnace Spinel.
- The Yellow Herb from valley Building 1, already used.
- Beerstein kept, not sold.
- Game saved in the dining room.
