Dropped by the Blob crushed with the red trap (north-east of the Maze).
Use
Place it in the central goal (the flashing circle on the map, north side). Each shard placed opens more of the maze and spawns a new Blob that smashes a wall.
Shards needed to open the exit: Amateur 1, Normal 3, Veteran 4, Professional 4.
Place it as soon as you have it: each placed shard updates the checkpoint. Your first shard is always this one or the Serpent Tail Shard.
