Chapter order: Surgical Extraction Room → Connecting Passageway 2 (“Our Mission”) → Construction Site Access: last Merchant and typewriter → lift to the construction site (Ada hanging) → Saddler → Ada’s special rocket launcher → Jet-ski Key and Ada’s bomb (3 minutes) → lift, Ashley → jet-ski.
BUY: First Aid Sprays · last upgrades (magnum, shotgun or TMP) · keep an 8×2 block (16 spaces) free for Ada’s launcher, or be ready to discard something when you pick it up. Sell the complete Golden Lynx (35,000pts), any treasures left, the thermal scope (there are no Regenerators left) and your Incendiary and Flash Grenades: Saddler is immune to both. If you have money to spare, a regular Rocket Launcher (30,000pts) shortens the fight before Ada throws you hers. Whatever you don’t spend now stays unspent: money carries over to the next run, but the game ends here.
You play as Leon. Luis’s machine has removed the Plaga from Ashley and you, and Leon leaves Ashley waiting in the Surgical Extraction Room to go after Saddler. The chapter is short: one passageway, the last Merchant with a typewriter, the fight against mutated Saddler on top of the construction site, and a timed escape by jet-ski while the island blows up.
Before you start
- Typewriter (1): at the Construction Site Access, next to the Merchant. Save there: it’s the last one before Saddler.
- Merchant (1): the same Access. He’s the last one in the game.
- Saddler is immune to Incendiary Grenades and Flash Grenades. Sell them.
- Ada’s Special Rocket Launcher: takes 8×2. If you miss with it, it’s game over (see below).
- Cash: Saddler drops 100,000pts you won’t spend this run: they carry over to the next.
- Professional: a normal rocket to the central eye may not be enough to make Ada throw hers (see below).
Connecting Passageway 2
You leave the Surgical Extraction Room, where Leon leaves Ashley waiting. At the northwest end of Connecting Passageway 2, by the door, there’s a Yellow Herb, Shotgun Shells ×5 and the file “Our Mission”.
Construction Site Access: the last Merchant
The Merchant and the typewriter are in the northeast area. Break the large wooden crate next to the Merchant: it holds an Incendiary Grenade and TMP Ammo ×50. There’s a Green Herb to the right of the passageway door.
What to buy and sell:
- Buy: First Aid Sprays and the last upgrades for the gun you’ll shoot the eyes with. The shotgun or TMP are good for the blinking leg eyes, and the magnum for the central eye.
- Sell: the Golden Lynx, loose treasures, the thermal scope, and the incendiary and flash grenades (including the one from the crate).
- Space: keep an 8×2 gap for Ada’s launcher.
- Optional: a regular Rocket Launcher (30,000pts). If you stagger Saddler (rifle to a leg eye) and put the rocket into the central eye, the fight gets much shorter.
Save and take the lift up to the construction site. Cutscene with no QTE: Ada is hanging from a rope, Leon frees her and Saddler mutates.
Boss — Osmund Saddler
Mutated Saddler is huge and slow, with four eyes, one on each leg, and a central eye in his mouth. The rest of his body soaks up a huge amount of damage: shooting it is barely worth it, except with explosives.
Arena items: Shotgun Shells ×10 by the south fence, on the northeast side; a Hand Grenade in the northwest corner; a Green Herb on the southern switch platform; and 2 red barrels, one by the corner of the south fence (northeast) and one by the west fence.
The fight loop:
- Shoot the leg eyes while they’re open. They blink, and while shut they’re invulnerable: the shotgun or TMP hit the window. Each hit staggers him, and each eye breaks on its second stagger. With all four broken, he keeps the central eye exposed all the time.
- Other ways to drop him: a Hand Grenade or a Mine Thrower mine to the body, the red barrels and the steel girders.
- When he drops to his knees, the central eye is exposed. Use the “CLIMB” action: Leon jumps onto his head and knifes it. You can also shoot it with the magnum or shotgun, which does more damage than climbing, but a single shot to the eye ends the stagger. Pick one.
- Repeat.
The crane girders. Near the ends of the catwalks are two switch platforms, with steel girders hanging from cranes. Hit the switch when Saddler passes underneath and the girder knocks him down: wait until he’s right below.
Attacks and tells:
- Legs, bladed tails and horned head at close range: keep your distance.
- He also attacks with the tentacles on his back: don’t run right past him, not even from behind.
- Falling bridges: some catwalk sections drop, and Saddler won’t follow you onto them. He leaps across to your catwalk or throws girders at you. The girders are dodged with a QTE: keep your finger ready whenever you’re on a different catwalk.
- If you’re very far away, he sometimes leaps at you.
Mine Thrower: one mine knocks him down for the knifing. Repeat four or five times and Ada throws you the special launcher.
Ada’s Special Rocket Launcher
Once you’ve done enough damage, Ada throws the Rocket Launcher (Special) into the arena. Look for it on the ground (that’s what the 8×2 gap is for).
- One hit kills him instantly in a special cutscene.
- If you miss, Saddler knocks Leon off the catwalk: game over. Only fire when he’s in the open and close, ideally while he’s down.
- If it lands next to a downed Saddler, make sure the prompt is the pickup and not “CLIMB”.
- You don’t have to use it: you can kill him with your guns and keep it. Next run you can sell it for 30,000pts or use it to kill Saddler the moment the fight starts.
- Professional: a normal rocket to the exposed central eye can leave him alive without Ada throwing hers. Stagger him again and hit the central eye with a strong magnum (a fully upgraded Broken Butterfly does it) to make her throw it.
Saddler drops 100,000pts.
Escape: 3 minutes
Ada takes the sample and the only helicopter, leaves you the Jet-ski Key and sets off the bombs: 3 minutes.
- Go back through the Construction Site Access to the Escape Route.
- Start the lift and pick up Ashley.
- Board the jet-ski.
On the water: it’s an underground waterway with falling debris and ramps. Dodge the rocks and reach the cave exit before the countdown ends. Go at a moderate speed, not flat out: it’s easier to dodge. Optional trick on the ramps: hold both triggers and tilt the stick back, left or right to flip.
Credits with the villagers’ before and after. Breathe.
When it’s over
- File: “Communication Log: Hunnigan #14” is added when you finish the game.
- Achievements: “We’re Going Home” (finish the game) and “A Heart of Steel” (finish it on Professional). Finishing unlocks the Special 1 costume, half of “The S Stands for Stylish!!” (Special 2 comes from Separate Ways).
- Unused special launcher: sells for 30,000pts in Round 2.
After the credits Round 2 (arsenal and money carry over), Separate Ways, Assignment Ada, Mercenaries and Professional unlock; see Postgame.
