Chapter order: Cabin yard (Merchant, typewriter, route lever) → do both: right gorge (El Gigante, Purple Gem, Old Key) · left camp (Bella Sisters, Red Gem, Ruby, Camp Key) → Outskirts (Merchant, typewriter, retinal-scanner gate) → gondola → Sacrificial Cave (Yellow Catseye) → Gondola Exit Path Merchant (typewriter) → slaughterhouse: Méndez → back to the Outskirts → False Eye on the gate → Castle Road (truck, Velvet Blue) → drawbridge.
BUY / SELL: sell the Beerstein with its 3 Catseyes (20,000pts) as soon as you leave the Sacrificial Cave, the Elegant Mask with its 3 gems (20,000pts) and the Ruby (10,000pts). Buy little: Red9 Power 1.8 if you don’t have it yet and, only if Méndez is giving you trouble, the Rocket Launcher (30,000pts). Bank the rest: big purchases wait in 3-1 (Attaché Case L 40,000pts, Semi-auto Rifle 35,000pts and upgrades).
After the siege, Luis is gone and you’re left with Ashley facing the village’s last barrier. The way out is in the Outskirts, behind a gate with a retinal scanner: the eye that opens it is the false eye of Bitores Méndez, the village chief, who waits for you in the slaughterhouse on the far side of the gondola. There are two routes to the Outskirts: the gorge with a second El Gigante, or the camp of the Bella Sisters. You can do both, and you should: each one holds a gem for the Elegant Mask. The chapter ends at the drawbridge of Salazar’s castle.
Before you start
- Typewriters: the one in the Merchant’s shed in the cabin yard, the one in the Outskirts storage building and the one on the Gondola Exit Path (the last one before Méndez).
- Merchants: in the cabin yard (next to his shed), in the Outskirts and on the Gondola Exit Path, right before the slaughterhouse.
- Do both routes. It’s the only way to get the Red Gem and the Purple Gem, which together with the Green Gem from 2-1 complete the Elegant Mask (20,000pts). When you finish one, walk back through it to the cabin yard and flip the lever.
- Méndez: keep 3 Incendiary Grenades (for example the church one from 2-1, the cabin one from 2-2 and the one in the gorge’s west hut), a loaded shotgun and TMP ammo.
- Lost if you don’t do it now: the slaughterhouse loot (once you jump out you can’t go back in) and anything still pending in the village. Using the False Eye on the Outskirts gate opens the road to the castle and the chapter ends at the drawbridge; the sources don’t say whether you can walk back through that gate.
- Professional: the items in these areas are the same; the Gigante, the Bella Sisters and Méndez hit much harder.
Cabin yard: the route lever
You start in the cabin yard. On the log piles, TMP Ammo ×50 (SW) and ×10 (by the south side of the cabin). The Merchant has moved next to his shed in the SE part of the yard; inside the shed are a typewriter and the file Two Routes, which explains the lever.
The lever opens one of the two big gates: right, the gorge (El Gigante); left, the camp (Bella Sisters). Both lead to the Outskirts. To do both, finish one, come back to the yard and pull the lever the other way.
Right route: the gorge (El Gigante, Purple Gem, Old Key)
The shorter one. As you near the first gate, El Gigante appears behind you, at the entrance you came through.
- The boulder: above the path, weak scaffolding holds up a boulder. Shoot it when El Gigante passes underneath: it lands on him (big damage) or blocks his way.
- Fight or run? He’s optional: you can run to the exit or kill him for 15,000pts. If you fight, the tactic is the 2-1 one: TMP to the head until he kneels, climb on and slash the Plaga. Leave Ashley on “Wait” away from him, for example past the first gate.
- The gates: break the chains on the small doors of the two big gates to get through.
- West hut: TMP Ammo ×50, Handgun Ammo ×10, Spinel, 1,000pts and an Incendiary Grenade on the table.
- East hut: 2 Spinels, Handgun Ammo ×10 twice, Shotgun Shells ×5 and 2 × 1,000pts on the table, and the Old Key on the floor.
- Purple Gem: past the second hut hangs a bucket with a sparkle: shoot it and the gem drops. There’s Handgun Ammo ×10 nearby: the wiki puts it on a bench under the bucket and Evil Resource on a beam on the north wall, by the huts.
The Old Key opens the door at the end, which leads to the Outskirts.
Left route: the camp (Bella Sisters, Red Gem, Camp Key)
Camp entry. A villager raises the alarm as soon as you walk in. By the NW doors there’s a container: put Ashley in it. Waiting for you are 4 Ganados and an explosives cart with 3 more around it: blow it to clear the first group or save the barrels for later.
Upper walkway. Climb to the second level: 7 Ganados, another container in the middle of the walkway and a Green Herb in the barrel in the SE corner. In the camp’s outside storage, Shotgun Shells ×5 on the mine cart.
The pit: the Bella Sisters. Knock a ladder down, drop into the pit and the cutscene hits: two chainsaw sisters (4000 HP each; one touch of the saw kills you instantly) plus 3 Ganados on the walkway.
- Run to a ladder, climb and fight from the top.
- Every time they climb a ladder, kick it down. Clear the balcony Ganados first.
- A point-blank shotgun blast or a Hand Grenade knocks them down (a rifle shot to the head makes them stagger); TMP while they’re on the ground. The Incendiary Grenade also knocks them over.
- One drops the Ruby (10,000pts) and the other the Camp Key. Whistle for Ashley and pick up what the Ganados dropped.
Red Gem. Open the pit door with the Camp Key. On the sandbag path, on the right, there’s a door with a box beside it: inside, a small hut with a barrel and a basement with a Hand Grenade. On the ground floor, to the left, there’s a boarded-up window: break the boards and follow the hidden path to a barrel with the Red Gem, plus a Flash Grenade. (This path comes from the Resident Evil Wiki: Evil Resource doesn’t list the village Red Gem.)
The exit gate. Before rounding the corner, put Ashley in the container in the SE corner, next to the way to the gate. There, 14 Ganados drop from the platforms above the gate: one grenade into the group, then the TMP. Nearly all of them drop money. Unbar the double door and you reach the Outskirts.
The Outskirts: Merchant, typewriter and the scanner gate
Both routes end here. The Merchant is in his shed; the storage building has a typewriter (small table in the NE), the file Village’s Last Defense (on the fallen locker in the SE) and Rifle Ammo ×10 (SW locker). Outside, Handgun Ammo ×10 on the oil drums by the building’s west wall. In the centre stands the gate with the retinal scanner: you’re missing the eye. The gondola is to the left.
If you’ve only done one route, walk back through it to the cabin yard now, flip the lever and do the other. With all three gems, combine them with the Elegant Mask and sell it.
Gondola
Get in the car with Ashley. On the way, 11 Ganados appear in the other cars, throwing weapons at you, and 2 on the pylons. If one jumps into your car he’ll try to cut the chain: if the car falls, you die instantly. One shot knocks him into the void; shoot the pylon ones too before they jump.
Lower station and Sacrificial Cave (Yellow Catseye)
In the lower station’s control room, the lockers hold Handgun Ammo ×10 (NW) and a Flash Grenade (NE). Halfway down the stairs, a side path leads into the Sacrificial Cave: 2 or 3 Ganados wait behind sandbags; then a ladder and, at the end, a chest with the Yellow Catseye. Combine it with the Beerstein (already holding the Red Catseye from 1-1 and the Green Catseye from 1-3): the complete Beerstein is worth 20,000pts.
Gondola Exit Path: the last Merchant
Further down, in a clearing: Merchant, typewriter and, on the boxes beside them, Shotgun Shells ×10, Handgun Ammo ×10 and TMP Ammo ×50. It’s the last shop and last save before Méndez. Sell the Beerstein and save. The path goes down to the slaughterhouse yard.
Boss — Bitores Méndez
Ashley stays outside. On entering, QTE: failing it is death.
Slaughterhouse loot (take it before you leave): ground floor: Handgun Ammo (SE), TMP Ammo ×50 (SW), Shotgun Shells ×5 and Green Herb (NW); upper floor: Handgun Ammo (NW), Hand Grenade and Red Herb on the west windows, Yellow Herb (NE) and Green Herb (E). In the NW of the ground floor there’s an explosive oil drum with a Spinel underneath.
Phase 1 (Méndez whole).
- His thrust kills instantly. The sweep, the downward swing and the slap deal 800 each; the bear hug and the throwing grab are QTEs (press the button shown); he also pulls you toward him to chain an attack.
- Climb to the upper floor by the ladder: from up there his attacks are easier to read. He doesn’t climb after you; he stretches to reach you.
- When he raises his spine he’s telling you where he’ll sweep: move between left, right and centre to dodge.
- After each attack he stands still for a moment: TMP or shotgun at the spine. If he passes the explosive drum, shoot it.
- 3 Incendiary Grenades at his feet nearly split him in two on their own.
Phase 2 (torso only). Now the thrust deals 800 instead of killing. He jumps from beam to beam and has to come close to attack you.
- A shotgun blast just before he reaches the balcony, or while he hangs from a beam, brings him down.
- On the ground, while he tries to get up, punish him: this is the moment for the Hand Grenade, or the Rocket Launcher if you bought one.
- Red9/TMP while he moves if you’re short on shells.
He drops 30,000pts and the False Eye. When you take the eye, a wall burns through: press JUMP OUT to leave. You can’t go back in: loot everything upstairs first.
⚠️ LAST CALL IN THE VILLAGE. Before using the False Eye on the gate: both routes and their gems, the Elegant Mask and the Beerstein sold, pending medallions, golden eggs, treasures. Past that gate the chapter ends at the castle bridge.
Back to the Outskirts: the False Eye
Pick up Ashley, ride the gondola back up and return to the Outskirts. Use the False Eye on the retinal scanner of the gate in the centre.
Castle Road
At the top of the hill, 3 Ganados are waiting. One starts a truck and drives it down the hill at you: shoot the driver or the engine and the truck overturns. According to the Resident Evil Wiki, the driver leaves 5,500pts. As you keep climbing, 8 Ganados appear behind you: a grenade into the group, or run. A trick from the wiki: if you walk up backwards, facing the doors you came through, they don’t appear until you lose sight of them. In the clearing at the top of the hill, the right-hand barrel holds a Velvet Blue. The chapter ends with the cutscene at the castle drawbridge.
Before you use the False Eye
- Old Key and Camp Key used: both routes done.
- Purple Gem, Red Gem and Ruby (10,000pts).
- Yellow Catseye, and the complete Beerstein sold (20,000pts).
- Elegant Mask with its 3 gems sold (20,000pts).
- False Eye and Méndez’s 30,000pts; the slaughterhouse picked clean.
- Game saved on the Gondola Exit Path or in the Outskirts storage building.
- Once on the Castle Road: the truck’s 5,500pts and the Velvet Blue in the barrel at the top of the hill.
