Step out of the forest onto Hyrule Field — your first time outside Kokiri Forest, so take the time to explore it by day and by night (Stalchildren rise after dark, easy to dodge once you’re on horseback later). Enter Castle Town through the south gate and check out the Bazaar, Bombchu Bowling, and the Shooting Gallery; all sell useful items depending on how many rupees you’re carrying.
Sneak into Hyrule Castle by skirting the guards through the side garden — Zelda is waiting by the moat and tells you about her premonition of Ganondorf. After the conversation, Impa teaches you Zelda’s Lullaby, the first ocarina song in the game and the one that confirms your standing with the Royal Family in every temple.
⚠️ If a guard spots you, you just get sent back to the entrance — not a serious setback, just lost time.
Items and treasures
- The Treasure Chest Game and Bombchu Bowling in Castle Town both award Pieces of Heart if you win.
- The white dog that follows Link through the back alleys at night leads to another Piece of Heart — it only shows up after dark.
