Tips & mechanics

Combat and Z-targeting

  • Hold Z to lock onto a target: you'll roll to dodge and strafe around it automatically.
  • A well-timed shield (hold B with a shield equipped) bounces back arrows and projectiles.
  • The spin attack (hold B, then release) deals extra damage but costs a bar of magic.
  • Jump while Z-targeting and attack in midair for a stronger downward strike.

Magic and bottles

  • The magic meter refills on its own over time; green potions top it off instantly.
  • A bottled fairy automatically revives you the moment you hit 0 hearts.
  • Lon Lon Milk heals in portions — sip it whenever, you don't have to drink the whole bottle at once.
  • You can empty an item bottle at any time to catch something else instead.

Bombs, Bombchus, and Deku Nuts

  • Deku Nuts stun almost anything nearby — great for breaking free from a crowd.
  • Bombchus hug walls and can be thrown into water — ideal for switches you can't reach directly.
  • A bomb tossed into an open mouth is usually the trick to a boss fight (Dodongo, Gohma…).
  • You can pick a lit bomb back up with Z + A if you change your mind.

Missable and time-limited items

  • Several trading-sequence steps spoil within minutes of real playtime — don't leave one half-finished.
  • The Piece of Heart from the white dog in Castle Town only appears at night.
  • Big Poes must be caught on horseback before they dissipate — always carry an empty bottle.
  • Treasure Chest Game chests reshuffle every attempt — there's no fixed 'correct' chest.

Getting around fast

  • Kaepora Gaebora (the owl) lets you skip long stretches if you accept his offer to fly you down.
  • Sheik's six warp songs are the fastest way to move around adult-era Hyrule.
  • The Scarecrow's Song works as a personal warp point once you've taught it.
  • Each dungeon map marks chests, the boss room, and any room with an unclaimed Skulltula.

Rupees and shops

  • Upgrade your wallet with Skulltulas (10 and 30) before you start hoarding rupees — overflow just gets wasted.
  • Every grotto's Business Scrub sells a unique item (arrow refills, Deku Nuts, extra hearts) cheap if you scare him first.
  • Sell spare gems and treasures at the Zora shop or the Bazaar if you need quick rupees for a one-off purchase.
  • The Shooting Gallery (Castle Town) gives a bigger Quiver if you beat a high enough score.

Gerudo Training Ground, room by room

  • Silver rupee rooms won't let you leave until you've grabbed every rupee in them — check corners and underwater before backing out to reset.
  • The Hover Boots turn the quicksand-floor room into a non-issue — just keep moving and don't stop on the sand.
  • One passage in the maze room is invisible without the Lens of Truth — sweep every dead-end wall with it before giving up.
  • The underwater rupee room wants the Zora Tunic and Iron Boots together, not just one or the other.
  • The Megaton Hammer knocks down the totem pole guarding the flame-locked chest in a single hit.
  • The final locked doors open in a fixed order — backtrack for any Small Key you skipped instead of bombing walls at random.
