Saffron City’s districts, adrift

Sparkling Skylands reimagines former Saffron City districts as floating islands rather than restoring them in place — the most visually distinct of the base game’s areas, and the one you enter through an Ultra-rank gate in Bleak Beach. Instead of one connected landmass, it’s separate islands linked by cable cars; fall off one and you respawn on solid ground, the way you would from drowning elsewhere.

Opening tasks

Professor Tangrowth points out a large ruined building in the distance but won’t say more until the region’s own Environment Level reaches 3 — a hard stop that forces you to build habitats and recruit Pokémon on your own before the story continues. A Rookidee met at the main hub island is lonely and wants company. Resource-wise, bring iron ore, iron ingots, and limestone blocks; Garbage blocks scattered around the islands (breakable with Rock Smash) are also worth clearing, yielding nonburnable garbage, wastepaper, iron ore, or gold ore.

Rebuild the Huge Building! — Tinkmaster’s skyscraper

At the top of a trash tower you meet Tinkmaster, a Tinkaton with the exclusive Engineer specialty — the only Pokémon able to lead the area’s largest building projects, and the sole source of Tinkagears, a crafting material needed for late-game structures. After building a Lift Platform to reach the Pokémon Center island, the main quest has you rebuilding a ruined high-rise floor by floor: three upper floors and a rooftop, from the bottom up. Later floors bring their own detours — a Gardevoir to find, a Fighting Dojo on the third floor, and the Waterfall move to learn on the fourth. Finishing all three floors and the rooftop triggers an encounter with the legendary Mewtwo and raises your Trainer Rank to Master.

What else is confirmed

Its Pokémon Center PC Shop unlocks the Gaming fridge recipe once the area’s own Environment Level reaches 10 — see the Milestones page. That’s the highest area-specific level requirement confirmed in this guide’s sources, distinct from the “reach Environment Level 3” story gate above and suggesting Sparkling Skylands’ shop track is meant to be tackled later than its main quest.

Still unconfirmed

This guide hasn’t independently verified Sparkling Skylands’ full Pokémon roster or the exact building requirements for each floor of the rebuild.
